Digital Security Project

Creating a safe space

CDR works with regional partners and a network of providers to run digital security and wellness programs for community of civil society organizations operating in high-risk contexts.

These organizations receive security assessments, tailored digital wellness plans, support via a secure incident response help desk, alerts and newsletters about new vulnerabilities and threats, and other forms of iterative training, support, and advice.

The Problem

Knowledge Gap

Knowledge Gap

Many organizations don’t know what to do when they face online attacks.

Hidden Information

Hidden Information

Lack of a community reporting mechanism meant information about threats remained hidden, attacks were more effective, and incidents were repeated.

One-off Trainings

One-off Trainings

Preventative work relied on one-off trainings to create long-term behavior change, and build organisational capacity.

Our Solution

Resiliency Tools and Processes

We set up our regional partner with an instance of CDR Link —our secure, open source helpdesk platform offering safe, direct lines of support to individuals at risk and a centralised reporting body for incident disclosure.

Incident Response & Ongoing Support

We work with regional partners and providers to ensure members of their community are provided with help and advice when something goes wrong or they come under attack.

Digital Wellness Plans

We provide holistic digital security risk assessments with easy to understand reports to help organizations identify existing strengths, areas for improvement, and a visualized roadmap and timeline for risk mitigation.

Threat Awareness

CDR Loop, our monthly newsletter, keeps community members in the loop about active threats and vulnerabilities relevant to them, with easy-to-follow risk mitigation measures and resources to learn how to build capacity over time.

The Outcomes

Safe Space

Safe Space

Member organizations can report, and get help with, digital security issues without judgement, while also contributing to wider community resilience.

Shift to Prevention

Shift to Prevention

Members build up protection to threats with long-term, in-depth preventative intervention, and responders can use data-assisted strategies to help prevent future digital attacks.

Structures for Resilience

Structures for Resilience

The infrastructure, systems, networks, and capacity, needed for sustainable resilience are created within the community.
